Poppy's Garden grows because of the people who read, comment, and share their own growing experiences with us. Whether you're leaving a tip on a compost post or asking why your tomatoes won't ripen, this space works best when everyone feels welcome and safe. These guidelines explain what we expect from anyone commenting, messaging, or otherwise taking part in our community, and what happens if those expectations aren't met.

Our Basic Principle: Respect First

Gardening is personal — everyone has their own soil, climate, budget, and level of experience. A tip that works in one backyard might flop in another, and that's fine. We ask that you treat other commenters the way you'd want to be treated over the garden fence: with patience, curiosity, and a bit of good humor.

• Disagree with ideas, not with people. Critique a method, not the person who tried it.
• Assume good intent, especially with beginners who ask questions that seem obvious to you.
• Keep language clean and suitable for readers of all ages, since gardening is a hobby the whole family enjoys.

What We Don't Allow

To keep this a genuinely pleasant corner of the internet, the following will get a comment removed and may lead to a ban from future participation:

• Harassment, hate speech, slurs, or personal attacks aimed at other commenters, our writers, or anyone else.
• Threats, intimidation, or content that targets someone based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
• Spam, including irrelevant links, repeated self-promotion, or comments that exist only to advertise a product, service, or unrelated website.
• Deceptive promotion — pretending to be a satisfied customer, hiding paid or affiliate relationships, or posting fake reviews.
• Content that is illegal, encourages illegal activity, or promotes clearly unsafe gardening practices (for example, misuse of chemical pesticides, unsafe tool handling, or foraging advice presented as guaranteed-safe without proper caution).
• Sharing someone else's private information without consent, including addresses, phone numbers, or photos of their property.
• Plagiarized content, copied text, or images posted without the rights to use them — see our Image Credits page for how we handle attribution on our own site.

A Note on Safety and Accuracy

We take gardening advice seriously, even when it's shared casually in a comment. Please don't present untested or risky methods as fact — this includes home remedies involving chemicals, advice about edible or medicinal plants that could be toxic if misidentified, or shortcuts around basic tool safety. If you're not sure whether something is safe to share, it's better to ask a question than to state it as certain advice. Our own approach to research and fact-checking is explained in our Editorial Policy, and the same spirit of care applies to community contributions.

Promotional Content and Links

We love hearing about tools, products, or nurseries that worked well for you, and personal recommendations shared in context are welcome. What we don't allow is comments that exist purely to push a business, drop an unrelated link, or game search rankings. How Moderation Works

Comments are reviewed periodically rather than instantly, so there may be a short delay before yours appears — this is normal and not a sign your comment was rejected. When we do moderate, here's what guides our decisions:

• First-time violations of a minor nature are usually just edited or removed, no drama involved.
• Repeated spam, harassment, or clearly malicious behavior can result in a permanent block from commenting.
• We reserve the right to remove any comment, at any time, for any reason connected to these guidelines — moderation decisions are made at our discretion and are final.
• We do not moderate based on differing opinions or gardening philosophies (organic vs. conventional, for instance) — only on behavior that breaks these rules.

How to Report a Concern

We read every report and act on genuine concerns as quickly as we can, though as a small team we appreciate your patience.
